The Little News Story that Didn't

by Ron Daly

I was getting ready this morning when Matt Lauer started up this news story:

"The Little Bank that Could"

Well, isn't that just a sharp stick in the eye.

Good for Capitol Federal, but what about almost every natural person credit union in the country?
Sure, the industry got its fair share of good press immediately following the Fannie/Freddie flop (The Financial Brand did a good job of tracking the good word - click here). CU Marketing professionals were giddy - all that good press just pouring out of websites, magazines and papers. But I'm the kind of guy that thinks there's never such as thing as too much exposure when the exposure you're getting is good.

Seems to me that my blog post from back when we just got started here (click to read) means just as much today. Take what's already been said and make it work for you. Take this opportunity to differentiate your credit union from every failure in the world of personal finance.

Because the media isn't going to do it for you anymore.

Yeah I've been annoyed at the lack of mention of credit unions in the media since the start of the meltdown. Good for that bank sticking to their guns about no subprime loans, but how about the rest of us CUs that have been calling attention to the subprime crisis on Capitol Hill for the last two years?!
